I’m A Honda Driving Soccer Dad – Jokes Aside

August 28th, 2009 charlestang

Being a single dad to a pair of 6 year old twin boys isn’t what one would call a leisurely walk in a park. Even more so now that its little league soccer season once more. This season yours truly is to be in charge of getting the team jerseys ready.

Being one of just 3 guys among 13 women in our team’s committee, it was a little bit of an effort to get most of them to come to an agreement not to change the team’s jersey color from red to a color I’ve only seen on abstract paintings. But as hard as we tried, we failed in our efforts to change the team moniker to The Red Warlocks from The Red Flamingos.

After sourcing for team jerseys, and believe it or not – sponsors, I realized that our kids’ soccer team did not have its very own logo. I broached this matter with the other 2 dads and we concluded that it would be a a superb idea if we could have our own team logo. So we agreed to design a logo each and present them to the committee.

All 3 of us got together the subsequent weekend with our designs and had a good laugh, before we agreed that there could be a slight chance that we weren’t cut out to be designers. Evidently my Flamingo gave certain people the impression that it was a Woodpecker on questionable anabolic elements. The designs from the other two dads weren’t that much better. One might be mistaken for a piece by Picasso and the other appeared like bored doodlings from a hapless victim of a 5 hour long department meeting. But we went ahead and gave the design drafts to the committee all the same.

Though the committee collectively barred the three of us from designing anything for the club unless there is a blue moon, they did agree that our soccer team should definitely have its very own logo. So I delightedly went back and surfed the net for logo design italy, selected a couple of design companies and suggested them to the committee.

Now we are glad to announce that our soccer team has finally got its own logo. We had patches made for the team uniforms and logo stickers printed for the fun of it – thanks to the sponsorship we got from the ice cream shop we always take the kids to after a game. The logo design itself came off looking extremely cool with a an unmistakeably red Flamingo standing on one leg and the other casually resting on a soccer ball with its wings akimbo.

I heard a little rumor that next year I’ll be in charge of water based refreshments. I’m contemplating taking it a step further and am already planning to talk to Powerade about a sponsorship contract.
